The Dartmouth Natal Day Road Races have been held in Dartmouth continuously since 1907, making it one of the oldest races in North America. It consists of 2-mile and 6-mile events, run on a 2-mile course through historic downtown Dartmouth. The course starts and finishes in front of the 250-year old Christ Church on Ochterloney Street and is followed by a reception and awards presentation.
The event attracts many of the top elite runners from around the province, but it is organized as a family-oriented race with many multi-generational families participating together. The race is priced to make it affordable to take part.
Many people make the Dartmouth Natal Day Road Races part of their annual Natal Day weekend, either as participants, volunteers, or spectators. The annual Natal Day Parade goes past the start-finish area shortly after the end of the race and there are lots of other activities going on in Dartmouth throughout the day. Our event receives support
from Halifax Regional Municipality each year through the provision of policing on the course.
For over 30 years the race was hosted by Fast Company Running Club with the help of a dedicated group of volunteers. In 2023 the Dartmouth Natal Day Road Race Association was formed to take over the race organization. It will continue to be operated on a not-for-profit basis with the same goal as always: to bring a high-quality running event as part of the Natal Day festival at an affordable price.
Over the years the Dartmouth Natal Day Road Race and Fast Company Running Club have donated thousands of dollars from race proceeds to local food-security charities, including Margaret's House, Feed Nova Scotia, and Christ Church food Bank.
